WELCOME TO THE BOARS' NEST.....

Matewan W.V. , an historic landmark town...

Full of Southern hospitality

Matewan, West Virginia is where the entire concept of the trail system was launched.  Known as " The Birthplace of the Hatfield McCoy trail system ", Buffalo Mountain was also the first trail system open to the public.  Matewan also carries with it a great historical story. The Matewan massacre was where a shootout between the miners and the coal company took place.  The miners were seeking a union and the company wouldn't allow it. The movie " Matewan " (available on DVD) was made about this event.  This event is the reason why Matewan is a Federal Land Mark town. Matewan is a quiet and ATV friendly town.  It sits on the border with Buskirk Kentucky, also ATV friendly.  When you visit Matewan, you make new friends, have a great time riding, and leave with the desire to come back.  If you want to avoid the more congested trails and ride some of the most challenging and scenic trails that the area has to offer, come to Matewan, officially nick named "Quad City USA", and enjoy Buffalo Mountain and The Boars Nest.
